Skopje: As the capital, Skopje boasts excellent 4G and growing 5G coverage from major providers, especially in the city center, around Macedonia Square, and throughout the Old Bazaar. You'll find a reliable signal in most cafes, hotels, and shopping centers. Coverage is consistent across the city's public bus network. Indoor signal strength may occasionally dip inside older buildings with very thick stone walls or in deep basements.

Ohrid: This popular tourist destination offers strong and reliable 4G connectivity throughout the town center, along the lakeside promenades, and within the historic Old Town. The network is robust enough to handle the high-season visitor traffic. Signal can be weaker inside some of the ancient churches or traditional stone guesthouses built into the hillside. While on a boat on Lake Ohrid, you can expect a good connection near the shore, but it may become less stable further out.

Bitola: The country's second-largest city has comprehensive 4G coverage. You'll experience a strong signal along the main pedestrian street, Širok Sokak, and in the central commercial areas. The Old Bazaar and the ancient ruins of Heraclea Lyncestis are also well-covered. Connectivity is generally very stable, though indoor penetration in some of the older neoclassical and Ottoman-era buildings might be slightly reduced.

Prilep: Expect solid 4G service throughout Prilep's city center and commercial districts. The connection is reliable for general use in town and around the Old Bazaar area. As you hike up the trails towards Marko's Towers (Markovi Kuli) just outside the city, the signal can become intermittent, so it's wise to download any maps you might need beforehand.

A1 and A2 Motorways: Connectivity is generally strong along the main A1 (E-75) corridor from the Serbian border to the Greek border, and on the A2 connecting Skopje, Tetovo, and Gostivar. Expect intermittent signal drops in the Vardar River valley, particularly through the Demir Kapija gorge, and in mountainous sections between Kičevo and Ohrid.

Makedonski Železnici (MŽ) Rail Network: On the main Skopje-Veles-Gevgelija line, the mobile signal is mostly stable but can be inconsistent when passing through rural areas and gorges. The line west towards Kičevo experiences more frequent signal loss, especially in the mountainous terrain after Tetovo.

Mountain Passes: Signal is unreliable or completely absent when crossing major mountain passes. Expect significant service interruptions on Straža Pass (between Gostivar and Kičevo), Pletvar Pass (between Veles and Prilep), and Gjavato Pass (between Bitola and Resen) due to the challenging terrain.

Highway Tunnels: Most road tunnels in Macedonia, particularly the numerous ones on the A2 motorway and through the Demir Kapija gorge, do not have cellular repeaters. You will lose signal upon entering and regain it shortly after exiting.

Mariovo Region and Border Areas: The vast and sparsely populated Mariovo region in the south is known for having very limited or no mobile coverage outside of its few villages. Similarly, remote mountainous border zones, such as the Šar Mountains (near Kosovo) and areas along the Albanian border, have extremely patchy service.
