How quickly can I activate my Bcengi eSIM?

Activation takes usually 5-10 seconds. In some cases, depending on where you are activating and your internet speed, can take up to a minute.

Do I need an internet connection to set up Bcengi?

Yes, an initial internet connection is required to access the portal and activate the eSIM. Use Wifi or another mobile network during setup.

Is there a Bcengi app for my mobile device?

No, there is no app for Bcengi. You manage your account and data usage through our online portal.

Where do I find my QR code?

Log in to your account at travel.bcengi.com, go to your eSIM detail page, and click eSIM QR & Info. Your QR code will be displayed — you can scan it from another device or screenshot it.

What if my phone isn't compatible with eSIM?

If your device doesn't support eSIM, we'll help with a full refund as long as the eSIM was never activated. Most phones from 2019 onward support eSIM — check the full list at bcengi.com/travelpass/esim-compatibility before purchasing.

Do I need to unlock my phone to use eSIM?

Yes. Your phone must be carrier-unlocked to use a third-party eSIM like Bcengi. If your phone was purchased through a carrier on a contract, contact them to confirm it's unlocked before purchasing.

Can I install the eSIM before I travel?

Yes — and we recommend it. Install your eSIM while you still have WiFi at home. It won't use any data until you arrive at your destination and enable it. This way you're ready to connect the moment you land.

eSIM Education

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is an embedded SIM card that is built into a device, allowing users to activate a cellular plan without a physical SIM card via QR code. You can read about this in a lot more details in our Travel eSIM Guide

What devices support eSIMs?

Most modern smartphones, tablets, and wearables support eSIMs. Check your esim device compatibility here https://www.bcengi.com/travelpass/esim-compatibility

How does an eSIM work?

An eSIM connects a device to a cellular network by remotely downloading a profile from a carrier, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card. You can read about this in a lot more details in our Travel eSIM Guide

What are the advantages of using an eSIM?

eSIMs offer flexibility, allowing multiple profiles on one device, seamless switching between carriers, and eliminating the need to swap SIM cards when traveling.

What is the difference between an eSIM and a regular SIM?

An eSIM is embedded and can store multiple profiles, while a regular SIM is a removable card limited to one carrier profile at a time.

Using Bcengi

Do I need to reinstall Bcengi eSIM for each country I visit?

No, Bcengi eSIM works in over 200 countries without the need for reinstalling when crossing borders.

How does Bcengi's pay-as-you-go model work?

With Bcengi, you are charged based on actual data consumption at country-specific rates. While prices are shown per GB, usage is metered and billed per kilobyte (KB). For example, if you use 25 MB of data, you are charged only for those 25 MB - not a full gigabyte.

Can I use Bcengi on multiple devices?

Each eSIM is linked to a single device, but you can purchase additional eSIMs for other devices.

Is Bcengi suitable for short trips?

Yes, the pay-as-you-go model with no data expiry makes it ideal for short trips, as you only pay for what you use. Learn more about our pay-as-you-go model.

What devices are compatible with Bcengi eSIM?

Managing Balance

Does Bcengi data balance expire?

No, your data balance with Bcengi does not expire. Use it until it's fully consumed.

How do I monitor my data usage with Bcengi?

You can monitor your data usage via our online portal at https://travel.bcengi.com, which provides 1-hour delayed tracking of your consumption.

Do I need to top up my Bcengi account manually?

Your account is setup to refill the balance automatically. You can always top up manually, anytime through our online portal as well.

How often is the data usage updated in Bcengi portal?

Data usage is updated every hour on Bcengi portal.

How is data usage calculated with Bcengi?

Data usage is measured in gigabytes (GB), but charges are calculated per kilobyte (KB), not per GB, based on your actual consumption in each country. For example, if you use 12.3 MB of data, you are billed only for that 12.3 MB - not a full gigabyte.

What is the refund policy for unused Bcengi data?

Bcengi does not have “unused data.” We use a pay-as-you-go balance that never expires, so any remaining balance stays on your account and can be used anytime. Once an eSIM is installed and used, purchases are non-refundable. See our Terms of Service: https://www.bcengi.com/legal/terms-of-service

How do I enable or disable auto-refill?

Log in at travel.bcengi.com, go to your eSIM detail page, and toggle Balance Auto Refill on or off. When enabled, your balance automatically tops up when it gets low — so you never run out mid-trip.

What happens if I run out of balance mid-trip?

Your eSIM will pause until you add more funds. You can top up anytime at travel.bcengi.com — even from a WiFi connection. To avoid this, enable auto-refill so your balance tops up automatically when it gets low.

Troubleshooting

What should I do if my Bcengi connection is not working in a country?

  • 1. Confirm coverage: Make sure your destination is supported on our coverage list: https://www.bcengi.com/travelpass/pricing
  • 2. Check device settings:
    • Data Roaming is enabled
    • The eSIM is turned on
    • Airplane Mode is off
  • 3. Verify your balance: If auto-refill is turned off or a payment method failed, a $0 balance will prevent connection. Update your payment method, re-enable auto-refill, or add a manual top-up in the portal.
  • 4. Get help: If the issue continues, chat with us directly in the portal or email support@bcengi.com for assistance.
  • How do I get support for Bcengi?

Support is available 24/7 through chat in our portal and via email at support@bcengi.com

What should I do if I encounter an error during Bcengi activation?

Try scanning the QR code again and make sure you have internet when you are activating. If the problem persists, contact customer support for help via chat in our portal or email us at support@bcengi.com

Can Bcengi support be contacted internationally?

Yes, our support team is accessible worldwide 24/7 through chat on our portal and via support@bcengi.com email.

How do I transfer my eSIM to a new phone?

eSIMs can't be directly moved between devices, but your balance is safe — it's tied to your account, not the eSIM.

Contact support at support@bcengi.com with your account email and new device info. We'll release the old profile and send you a new QR code to install on your new phone.

What APN settings do I need?

For Android devices, set the APN to globaldata (no username, no password). iPhones usually configure this automatically.

Android / Samsung: Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → Bcengi → Access Point Names → add new APN: globaldata

How do I enable data roaming for my eSIM?

Data roaming must be ON for the Bcengi eSIM line.

iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Bcengi line → Data Roaming → ON

Android / Samsung: Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks → Data Roaming → ON

This is the #1 reason eSIMs don't connect after landing.
