Dushanbe: As the capital, Dushanbe offers the most reliable 4G and growing 5G coverage in Tajikistan, especially along Rudaki Avenue and in the city center. Connections are strong in most hotels, cafes, and modern buildings. However, signal may weaken inside older, Soviet-era apartment blocks with thick walls. Public transport like trolleybuses and marshrutkas maintain consistent connectivity as they operate entirely above ground.

Khujand: Tajikistan's second-largest city has dependable 4G coverage throughout its main districts. Key areas like the Panjshanbe Bazaar and the Khujand Fortress have a strong and stable signal. Indoor performance is generally good, but can be less consistent in basements or older, traditional courtyard houses. The network is robust within the city but becomes less reliable in the outlying industrial and rural areas.

Khorog: As the main town in the Gorno-Badakhshan region, Khorog provides the best connectivity you'll find along the Pamir Highway. Expect functional 3G and basic 4G services, which can be inconsistent and slower than in western Tajikistan. The signal is strongest in the town center and near the university. Indoor coverage is often weak, so a stable connection may require being near a window or outdoors.

Bokhtar: Located in the southern lowlands, Bokhtar has solid 4G network coverage in its urban core and main commercial areas. The central bazaar and administrative districts are well-served. Signal strength can be variable inside dense residential buildings and may drop off significantly once you travel into the surrounding agricultural cotton fields and villages.

Istaravshan: In this historic city, mobile coverage is concentrated in the newer parts of town and around the main bazaar, where you will find reliable 4G for general use. Within the winding alleys of the old city (Shahr-i-Kuhn) and inside traditional structures, the signal can be intermittent. Expect a weaker connection when exploring ancient madrasas or covered market areas.

M41 Pamir Highway: Connectivity along this world-famous route is extremely limited. Expect a reliable signal only within larger towns like Khorog and Murghab. The vast, high-altitude stretches between settlements in the Gorno-Badakhshan region have no service at all.

Dushanbe-Khujand Highway: As Tajikistan's primary north-south link, this highway has relatively good coverage. However, service is inconsistent and drops frequently when passing through the Fann Mountains. Signal is lost entirely in tunnels and on certain high-altitude sections of the road.

Tajik Railways: The country's rail system provides intermittent connectivity. On routes from Dushanbe to cities like Kulob or Khujand, you can expect a signal when passing through towns and villages, but extended periods of no service are common in the rural landscapes between them.

Anzob and Sharshar Tunnels: There is no cellular coverage inside Tajikistan's long highway tunnels. Expect a complete signal loss for the entire 5-kilometer length of the Anzob Tunnel and within the Sharshar Tunnel, with service resuming only upon exiting.

Gorno-Badakhshan & Remote Valleys: Outside of administrative centers, the entire Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) is effectively an offline zone. Other remote mountain regions, such as the Zarafshan and Bartang Valleys, also have little to no network coverage, requiring travelers to be self-sufficient for navigation and communication.
