Why a day plan costs more for a typical trip

A day plan charges for every day of the trip, whatever the trip uses. A median 7-day trip used 1.38 GB. With Bcengi you pay for the 1.38 GB, and the rest of your balance stays for the next trip.

If you use far more data than most travelers

If you stream video for hours every day and expect to use many times the data in the trip rows above, an unlimited plan can look like the safe choice. Unlimited does not mean without limits. Holafly's terms say an unlimited plan's speed may be subject to the network provider's fair use policy, and that the provider may restrict your data use or speed if your use is deemed excessive (Holafly's website, read October 3, 2026).

Holafly's help page says some operators may reduce your speed after a certain amount of high-speed data, for up to a day, without saying what that amount is (Holafly's website, read October 3, 2026). Holafly's USA page limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day (Holafly's website, read October 2, 2026).

With Bcengi, a heavy week costs more, at the same rate, metered by the KB. Even at 2 GB a day, about 10 times the median, a 7-day trip uses 14 GB, which is $23.52 at $1.68/GB with Bcengi in the United States, less than Holafly's 7-day plan there at $27.50.

How hard is it to size a package?

Any package, from Holafly or anyone else, has to be chosen before the trip. The usage report shows why that is hard for Bcengi's travelers:

What you get with Bcengi

  • One reusable eSIM: install it once and use it on every trip.
  • A balance that never expires: what one trip does not use is there for the next.
  • No plan to pick: you never guess a size before you travel.
  • Top up any time, by hand or with auto-refill.

Questions about Bcengi and Holafly

Is Holafly worth it for a typical trip?

On price, not in the destinations above: in each of them a median 7-day trip cost less with Bcengi than Holafly's plan for it. We did not test Holafly's speeds or reliability, so this page makes no claim about them.

Is Holafly eSIM really unlimited data?

Holafly lists these plans as unlimited data for a set number of days. Its USA page also says your speed can be reduced for up to a day under a fair usage policy, and that Holafly limits hotspot sharing to 1 GB a day (Holafly's website, read October 2, 2026).

Which eSIM costs less for a trip to the United States?

In the United States, Bcengi charges $1.68/GB, so a median 7-day trip's 1.38 GB is $2.32 with Bcengi. Holafly's cheapest plan for a 7-day trip there is unlimited data for 7 days at $27.50.

Can I keep my regular phone number with a travel eSIM?

With Bcengi, yes. Bcengi is data only: your phone number stays on your home SIM for calls and texts, and apps like WhatsApp work over the eSIM's data. See how to set up dual SIM.

Which eSIM is best for international travel?

For most trips, one you do not have to size in advance. The usage report found that use is hard to predict, even for trips of the same length, so paying as you go means you never pay for data you did not use.

Is an eSIM any good for travel?

Yes, if your phone supports it: you install it before you leave, there is no shop to find on arrival, and your home SIM keeps your number. Check that your phone supports eSIM.

How these figures were measured

The usage figures come from Bcengi's 2026 International Mobile Data Usage Report: a stratified random sample of 10,000 travel periods, with usage from January 1 to September 30, 2026. The figures cover every destination in the sample, not one country.

Everyone sampled chose a pay-as-you-go eSIM, so the figures describe those travelers, not all travelers.

Each trip cost on this page is a model, not a bill: the GB a trip used times the per-GB rate on our pricing page on October 2, 2026. Rates can change; the pricing page always has the current ones.
