Check if Your Phone Is Unlocked for eSIM
A carrier-locked phone can only use eSIM profiles from that carrier. To use a travel eSIM like Bcengi, your phone must be unlocked. Here is how to check.
iPhone
- Go to Settings → General → About
- Scroll down to Carrier Lock (or Network Provider Lock)
- If it says "No SIM restrictions" — your phone is unlocked
- If it says anything else (like a carrier name), your phone is locked
Samsung / Android
Android does not have a universal unlock status screen. Try these methods:
- Method 1: Insert a SIM card from a different carrier. If it connects and makes calls, the phone is unlocked.
- Method 2: Try installing the eSIM. If the installation completes, the phone accepts third-party profiles.
- Method 3: Contact your carrier and ask them directly. They can check your IMEI.
How to Unlock Your Phone
- Contact your carrier — most carriers will unlock your phone for free if your contract is paid off or your device is fully paid for
- Processing time: Unlocking usually takes 24–72 hours
- After unlocking: You may need to restart your phone before the unlock takes effect
Phones That Are Usually Unlocked
- Phones bought directly from Apple, Samsung, or Google (not through a carrier)
- Phones bought outright at full price
- Phones where the contract or payment plan is fully completed
Bcengi TravelPass is a pay-as-you-go eSIM — you only pay for data you use, with no bundles, no expiry, and no contracts. One eSIM works in 200+ countries.
