Pre-Flight Checklist — Phone Settings to Change Before Traveling
Taking 2 minutes to adjust your phone settings before boarding can save you hundreds in unexpected charges and ensure you're connected the moment you land.
1. Turn Off Carrier Data Roaming
This prevents your home carrier from charging you for data abroad.
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → your home SIM line → Data Roaming → OFF
- Android / Samsung: Settings → Connections → Mobile Networks → Data Roaming → OFF
2. Enable Data Roaming on Your eSIM Line
Your Bcengi eSIM needs data roaming ON to connect to local networks abroad.
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Bcengi line → Data Roaming → ON
- Android / Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Bcengi → Data Roaming → ON
3. Set Your eSIM as the Default Data Line
Make sure your phone uses the eSIM for data, not your home SIM.
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Cellular Data → select Bcengi
- Android / Samsung: Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Mobile Data → select Bcengi
4. Turn On Low Data Mode
Reduces background data usage from apps updating, syncing, and downloading.
- iPhone: Settings → Cellular → Bcengi line → Low Data Mode → ON
- Android: Settings → Network → Data Usage → Data Saver → ON
5. Download Offline Maps
Download maps for your destination before you leave WiFi. Works in both Google Maps and Apple Maps.
- Google Maps: Search your destination → tap "Download" → select area
- Apple Maps: Tap your profile → Offline Maps → Download New Map
6. Disable Automatic App Updates Over Cellular
- iPhone: Settings → App Store → Mobile Data → OFF
- Android: Play Store → Settings → Network Preferences → Auto-update apps → Over WiFi only
