On O2 monthly plans without the O2 Travel Inclusive Zone, data in the United States takes Data Roaming Bolt Ons at £6 per 1GB, and a week's 1.38 GB needs two: 2 x £6 = £12 ($15.90) with O2. Travel periods of 6 to 8 days used a median of 1.38 GB in Bcengi's 2026 sample. Paying as you go, that trip's 1.38 GB costs $2.32 in the United States at $1.68/GB, metered by the KB. Bcengi is about 7 times cheaper for this trip.
This page is for O2 monthly plans that pay for data in these destinations: the United States and Australia on plans without the O2 Travel Inclusive Zone, and Turkey on every plan except Ultimate Plans. O2's Europe Zone is not compared. Prices are as listed on O2's website, read October 3, 2026.
What O2 charges for data abroad
- Data Roaming Bolt Ons, the United States and Australia (Zone 1): O2 charges £6 for 1GB, £13 for 3GB and £18 for 5GB.
- Data Roaming Bolt Ons, Turkey (Zone 2): O2 charges £9 for 1GB, £20 for 3GB and £29 for 5GB.
- Without a Bolt On, O2 stops your data abroad in these destinations.
- O2 Travel Bolt On: O2 charges £7 for every day you use it, however little data the day uses, so 7 x £7 = £49 ($64.93) for a week with O2.
A week's 1.38 GB takes two 1GB bundles with O2. The trip uses 1.38 GB of the 2GB, so nearly a third of what you paid for is left unused, and O2 keeps it only until the end of your next billing month.
What a 7-day trip costs: O2 or paying as you go
Paying as you go with Bcengi, a trip costs what its data costs. Each line below is a model for a trip of 6 to 8 days: the median (1.38 GB) and the 90th percentile (6.50 GB) from the usage report, times the country's rate on October 3, 2026.

O2 roaming questions
Does the O2 Travel Inclusive Zone include Turkey?
No. Turkey is in O2's Zone 2, and only Ultimate Plans include it. On other plans, O2's Data Roaming Bolt Ons for Turkey are £9 for 1GB, £20 for 3GB and £29 for 5GB.
How much is the O2 Travel Bolt On?
O2 charges £7 for each day you use it, in 75 destinations outside Europe.
How do I use a travel eSIM instead of O2 roaming?
Install the eSIM before you leave, set it as your data line, and turn data roaming off for your O2 line so it does not use data abroad. See turn roaming off on your home line.
How these figures were measured
The usage figures come from Bcengi's 2026 International Mobile Data Usage Report: a stratified random sample of 10,000 travel periods, with usage from January 1 to September 30, 2026. The figures cover every destination in the sample, not one country.
Each trip cost on this page is a model, not a bill: the GB a trip used times the per-GB rate on our pricing page on October 3, 2026. Rates can change; the pricing page always has the current ones.
Pound prices are converted to US dollars at the Federal Reserve's rate for September 25, 2026, 1.3250 US dollars per pound.
