What Optus charges for data abroad
- Optus Daily Roaming, on Choice Plus, Plus Family and Plus Promo plans: A$5 for 5 GB to use in 24 hours in Zone 1, which includes the five destinations below; when the 5 GB runs out, Optus adds another 5 GB for A$5. A week is 7 x A$5 = A$35 (US$24.62).
- The Optus Roaming Pass, on selected other postpaid plans: A$10 for 1 GB per 24 hours, so a week is 7 x A$10 = A$70 (US$49.23).
- Each day costs the same however little data you use that day.
- Prepaid: Optus' International Roaming add-ons are A$25 (US$17.58) for 5 GB over 14 days and A$45 (US$31.65) for 10 GB over 28 days.
The trip uses 1.38 GB of Optus' 5 GB add-on, so nearly three quarters of what you paid for is left unused when it expires.

How these figures were measured
The usage figures come from Bcengi's 2026 International Mobile Data Usage Report: a stratified random sample of 10,000 travel periods, with usage from January 1 to September 30, 2026. The figures cover every destination in the sample, not one country.
Each trip cost on this page is a model, not a bill: the GB a trip used times the per-GB rate on our pricing page on October 3, 2026. Rates can change; the pricing page always has the current ones.
