Travel periods of 6 to 8 days used a median of 1.38 GB in Bcengi's 2026 sample. Paying as you go, that trip's 1.38 GB is $1.64 in the United Kingdom at $1.19/GB, metered by the KB.
This page puts AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile side by side for travelers from the United States, against paying as you go. Each carrier has its own page with the details. Other US carriers are not on this page yet: we add a carrier after reading its prices on its own site.

What the carriers include that a data eSIM does not
The carriers' passes include calls on your number. Bcengi is data only: your number stays on your carrier's line, apps like WhatsApp and FaceTime call over the eSIM's data, and you can share the eSIM's data as a hotspot.
US carrier roaming questions
Should I turn on roaming when traveling internationally?
On your carrier's line, only if you want to use its pass. If your line has AT&T International Day Pass or Verizon TravelPass, using data, sending a text or making or answering a call in an included destination starts a $12 day (AT&T's and Verizon's websites, read October 2, 2026). With a travel eSIM, turn data roaming on for the eSIM line and off for your home line so it does not use data abroad. See turn roaming off on your home line.
What is the disadvantage of a travel eSIM?
Your phone has to support eSIM and be unlocked; check the eSIM compatible phones list. A data eSIM like Bcengi has no phone number, so calls and texts on your number still go through your carrier. Paying as you go, heavy use in an expensive country adds up.
Do I need to convert my SIM card to an eSIM?
Not to use a travel eSIM. It is added next to your carrier's SIM, which keeps your number, and it carries your data abroad. Converting your carrier's own line to an eSIM is done by your carrier. See how to set up dual SIM.
How these figures were measured
The usage figures come from Bcengi's 2026 International Mobile Data Usage Report: a stratified random sample of 10,000 travel periods, with usage from January 1 to September 30, 2026. The figures cover every destination in the sample, not one country.
Each trip cost on this page is a model, not a bill: the GB a trip used times the per-GB rate on our pricing page on October 2, 2026. Rates can change; the pricing page always has the current ones.
